Just thought I'd share my morning's experience in case anybody else gets the same problem...

We have Cpanel/WHM Automatic Stable Tree updates set up on Redhat 7.3.

After the update (which occurs at 3:50am for us), Apache was no longer able to restart (i.e. all sites down).

Sifting through the upcp logs, it looks like this is what killed it:
    Downloading zlib-1.1.4-8.7x.i386.rpm
    Retrieving http://updates.cpanel.net/pub/rpmup/redhat/7.3/x86/updates/zlib-1.1.4-8.7x.i386.rpm
    Preparing... ##################################################
zlib error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/lib/libz.so.1.1.4;3eae9fe1: cpio: read
    Downloading zlib-devel-1.1.4-8.7x.i386.rpm
    Retrieving http://updates.cpanel.net/pub/rpmup/redhat/7.3/x86/updates/zlib-devel-1.1.4-8.7x.i386.rpm
    Preparing... ##################################################
zlib-devel ##error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/include/zlib.h;3eaea0e3: cpio: read

Clicking on server status, it said something to the effect of: "/usr/lib/rpm/rpmq: error while loading shared libraries: libz.so.1: cannot find file"

Anyway, being a clueless newbie, I went to Install RPM in WHM and reinstalled zlib. Since Apache still didn't want to restart, I rebooted the server. Thankfully, on restart, all was well again...

So much for stables updates :(

Anybody have any idea why this may have happened? Did anybody else experience this?

    Maverick.
