In SSH: service httpd start Show us the output...usually that gives the information needed to fix problem.

    # /etc/init.d/httpd stop
    # killall -9 httpd
    # /etc/init.d/httpd startssl
    # tail -100 /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log
    # df

Post the error log output, if you have any issues, it will likely be there.
Your disk partition may be full, core files filling up /usr or the socket has a stale process bound to it - Could be anything, thats what logs are for to help you find the problem. :)

    hmm..

Does your httpd.conf have any data within it?

/usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf - Try to restore a backup copy of it, there should be backups of httpd.conf within /usr/local/apache/conf/ and also within your backups if you run them.

Also, check your disk space, as it looks like you have an 0 byte httpd.conf and that usually happens when you fill up /usr and httpd.conf gets written to or attempted to do so.

If you get stuck with the above, you need to hire a sysadmin or contact your data center, to let them resolve it for you.

    Hello,

Having someone log into your box would usually cost you money - Thats the hire a Sysadmin idea. If you need to hire someone to fix it for you, (login and do it for you) I would recommend that you contact either Chirpy or another of the providers on these boards that charge for commercial support - Sorry I don't provide commercial support, so you need to look elsewhere for that ;) but I can advise you and maybe with well thought answers to my questions, you will get a fix.

Please post me the output of the following,

    # ls -l /usr/local/apache/conf/

    # df

    # ls -l /usr/local/apache/

We may be able to fix things that way. :)

    Ok thanks for the info.

Disk space ok, no 0 byte apache conf..

    Ok, try the following

    cd /usr/loca/apache/conf/

    mv httpd.conf httpd.conf.bad.backup

    cp httpd.conf- httpd.conf

    /etc/init.d/httpd configtest

Your httpd.conf should be chmod 644 also - Its currently chmod 444 by the look.

How did this error appear in the first place?
Did you try to upgrade apache or anything?

Have you tried to reinstall apache?

    wget http://layer1.cpanel.net/buildapache.sea

    sh buildapache.sea

Other than that, it looks like you need to hire somone to fix it for you.

Thats one way that you can try to reinstall apache - It won't hurt to try, as apache isn't running at present.

I would not recommend updating apache in the future, where you cannot solve and fix problems if things go wrong. cPanel isn't a complete replacement for someone that can administer a server, merely a tool to make things easier.
I know that might seem harsh, but thats life.

    Hi,

you better look your log files /usr/local/apache/logs/.If they exceed the size limit apache will not work even though it successfully restarted.Hope this helps.
