    Here's your first two clues:
Try commenting out both of those modules from httpd.conf and attempt to restart Apache.

Try option 6. The others are useless.

Does Apache work? Is it 1.3.28? Does PHP work? If so, nothing is wrong.

Are you serious? You run a company and think this way? Do you reboot to fix things to?

All of my servers have been up for at least 60 days. They all have the latest Apache, Cpanel and PHP and they all run fine. Worry about your own company and perhaps become civilized while you are at it.

Since everyone is getting crazy around here ;) I have to wonder how crazy it is to get an error msg.:

Syntax error on line 210 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /usr/local/apache/libexec/mod_log_bytes.so into server: /usr/local/apache/libexec/mod_log_bytes.so:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

and not even check out if the file is there or not.

It's also crazy to get carried away after a re-compile when:

    /usr/local/apache/bin/httpd -t
    or
    tail -f /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log

show no errors (did the original poster check these?) and all services are running normally.

They may be errors and problems with services, but since the original poster refuses to answer questions asked: "Does Apache work? Is it 1.3.28? Does PHP work?" it's crazy to continue offering suggestions.

    Just a thought. :D

We've got one server where all the files in /usr/local/apache/libexec stop working when you recompile apache. We had to copy binaries over from another server to get it to start.

The original poster did checked and double checked everything. He verified that the files were there, that the httpd.conf settings were correct and optimal and all services were running. Being a level3 senior systems administrator, when 5 of the servers that he manages start giving errors, and since these servers are all production servers with hundreds of domains hosted over them, he felt that it was necessary to take suggestions from this cpanel forum and see if others were getting the same error. If those services were not running, then he would have made this post 15 minutes after he got the error, and not almost after a week. He believes that a production server should have NO errors. That original poster happens to be me:D

CPanel said and I quote: "The error in easyapache can be safely ignored"

I agree with this. however.. MY particular error deals with mod_bwlimited.. yes, commented out that module.. no go.. error exactly like the one you got..

Syntax error on line 210 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /usr/local/apache/libexec/mod_log_bytes.so into server: /usr/local/apache/libexec/mod_log_bytes.so:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd startssl: httpd could not be started

except.. MINE was line 212.... for mod_bwlimited.so... checking to see if it is there, it is.. so I pico'd it.. guess what? the file is EMPTY...

rebuilding apache using the WHM feature.. trying to include GD support.. that error occurs.... and apache stays "failed"... but..when doing a default build.. not a problem, no errors..

seems to me like an issue with cpanel's easyapache?? maybe trying to install GD mod overwrites mod_bwlimited?? (could be because the RPM is no longer available? I cant find a valid copy of mod_bwlimited...from apache mods...... I have an idea that I am gonna try- copy the mod_bw limited file as it is.. and when the error occurs. replace it and restart apache..) otherwise, Im gonna try rebuilding apache manually. but I need to find out what cpanel needs in the build to work properly...

    any advice??

    thanks!

    Bri!

yes, I've had this happen on 2 machines now. It can be fixed by grabbing the binary from a working machine for the .so that won't load.

    Buildapache is officially broken. :(

Well this is a known issue by the developers and they supposed to be working to correct this. This is happening on every server we manage including our own. Also to point out this error was not present and has only become present when the 1.3.28 apache came out or previosly before. Now to add to this if you investigate which any admin should if they experience any problems with this such as they should if they had problems with anything else they will see that it is not finding those files and showing them as non-existant. However they do exist! Any admin would have investigated this... any that just ignore it since everything "seems" to be working... well we will see your clients coming to us in a couple of months. :)

    Uhh whoa.. what a mouthful!..
    In other words..

It's recent, Cpanel Dev's are working on it, and admins that investigate will find that files seem to be missing but they DO exist.. admins that dont investigate. well. probably wont be admin's very long..:D

Actually, I believe the files exist.. but on further inspection and comparision, I am finding the file in question... for me.. is Corrupted.. and therefore.. it may try to load, but it won't.....
