Whereas i have hell lot of traffic i never see more than one or two 'W'

It confuses me

It does appear weird, however, I would like to know do you have any caching mechanism on your server, so there are chances that the requests are directly served through the cache..

Are you sure there are actually slots that should be displayed as "Waiting For Connection"? You may want to utilize one of the benchmark utilities referenced on the following third-party URL to fully test Apache:
