Authenticated email problem

    We are having a problem with authenticated email. In the users home directory in etc, the &shadow& file has permissions of 400. But Exim runs as the user &mailnull&, so it has no access to this file. If I change the permissions to something that mailnull can access, outgoing authenticated email works fine. What would be the proper way to fix this?
