Hello! We are a web design and development company who operates our own datacenter with cPanel on our primary web server. Since we focus on the design of websites over mass hosting, many times we need to get an account created and a website concept up before we actually have a domain name or the client has a current site and we can not transfer their domain until the new design is compete. We could just throw the concept site into a central hosting package with many subdomains for all of our current design projects, but when the design job is done we would need to transfer the site files and the database to another account.

I personally host with 1and1 and they automatically give you a generic subdomain to get started before you get your first domain, and that is exactly what I want to try to do with cPanel. We have our primary reseller account that we use and would like to assign either the accounts name ( account.ourdomain.com ) as the subdomain or even a semi-random string ( d8e8fca2dc.ourdomain.com ).

TLDR - Is there a way to automatically assign a dynamically generated subdomain to a newly created hosting package that does not have a domain name.

    Thanks for the help guys

You can create an individual cPanel account using a sub domain of another domain of your own, just like creating any other cPanel account. There is no way to do this dynamically in WHM that I'm aware of though.

As a Reseller with domain ourdomain.com you can create accounts like account.ourdomain.com

    And/or, with a change here:

WHM > Server Configuration > Tweak Settings > Domains tab, find this:
Allow resellers to create accounts with subdomains of the server’s hostname.

    ... and make account.hostname.com possible.

There is no automated way of changing that temporary account.ourdomain.com to hisdomain.com either though. Depending on how many changes you make to that account.ourdomain.com, if for example you just created the site, you could probably use:
WHM > Account Functions > Modify an Account, to change the account from account.ourdomain.com to hisdomain.com once you were ready to go easy enough I think.
