Has anyone noticed anything within the last couple of hours [time now is 5.50pm USA Eastern] with DNS/BIND ? Seems all servers in UK and USA are having a similar problem with certain local name servers ceasing to function totally and only common factor is a backend/security update from cpanel possibly, unless the Internet has gone to s*** at root servers?

I have not reviewed the particular issue you describe yet ...

However, Cpanel has released a number of bad updates on and off the
past couple of months where they make the same mistake each time
of putting the port with the IP in the DNS templates for BIND.

    IE: 'x.x.x.x:80' instead of 'x.x.x.x'

I suspect someone there at Cpanel is doing a global replace on files
for the Apache templates and accidentally updated the DNS template
files as well which effectively renders BIND dead in the water.

Easy fix though on this particular issue ....

Go to your /var/named folder and run the following:
    replace "\:80" "" -- *.db
    Restart your DNS service

Don't forget to check you DNS template files to make sure you don't
have any ":80" showing up in the templates anywhere
