Hello everyone!

How can I enable automatic updates in cPanel 86.0.4? I did a lot of research, but I didn't find anything about it. In the update preferencies session, there is a selection of versions and the location where the update will be saved only.

Hi AJ,

Each version we list in the WHM » Update Preferences interface (EDGE, Current, Release, Stable and now LTS) automatically update. You need only select your preferred schedule and your system should automatically update as we release versions of cPanel.

Hey, Adam! Thank you for your reply.

I understood, but this is not happening with the server. I think the auto update is disabled. One of my friend told me who on your server they have this interface options on Update Preferencies: https://puu.sh/FgpTy/42d8b3c827.png, but this is not displayed for me, so I always need performe the update as manually.

There are some way to check if update method is really disabled? I want to activatate to provide auto updates to my server.

Ah. Your friend is running an older version of cPanel & WHM (<= v84). Starting in v86, we now require the use of the command line to disable automatic updates.

Don't worry. As long as you've picked one of the named options in the table (Edge, current, release, stable or LTS), your box is configured to automatically update.

Starting in v86, we now require the use of the command line to disable automatic updates.
Why would you do that? If I'm already set to manual, will upgrading to v86 change my preference to automatic without my knowledge?

What is the command line for changing this setting? Is there a documentation page you can link to for it?

I have both Daily Updates and Operating System Packages set to Manual. Will this command work for both?

I prefer to wait to see if there are any issues with an update first and prefer to do my updates on the weekends. So reliable settings for manual updates is important.

This worked for me, I don't see any cpanel documentation about this. Your mileage may vary.
My updates were blocked with no way to update and there was no way to even run a manual update.
There is a file /etc/cpupdate.conf, mine looked like this:
CPANEL=stable
RPMUP=never
SARULESUP=never
STAGING_DIR=/usr/local/cpanel
UPDATES=never

I modified updates to UPDATES=manual and then I was able to do a cpanel update to whatever release tier was selected.
