I have AutoSSL enabled in WHM and set up to use Let’s Encrypt. At the moment things are not working and I am getting an error like this in the AutoSSL log:

WARN Local HTTP DCV error (example.com): An internal error occurred. Check the system log. (XID: xnek22)

Does anyone have any idea where the “system log” is? The error tells me little to nothing about what happened and “Check the system log” is equally vague. What system log is this error referring to?

Found the problem - .htaccess redirect to https. I'm not sure why this is an issue since it works fine with certbot but in the case of AutoSSL an https redirect apparently breaks HTTP DCV.

    Hi @billy noah

I'm glad to hear you found the source of the issue. We have a case open for this: CPANEL-22112 - Let's Encrypt for cPanel not properly following redirects. This should be resolved in v76 of cPanel.

    Thanks!

I am running in to the same problem. The autoSSL certificates for a couple domains aren't updated. Have the same warnig message in log:

WARN Local HTTP DCV error (example.com): An internal error occurred. Check the system log. (XID:ekdqzj)

I've update to cPanel version 76.0.6 but HTTP DCV still fails. Any suggestions?

I am using LE as a provider.
All HTTP traffic is redirected to HTTPS.

Does case CPANEL-22112 apply to this problem as well?

    Hi @rappie

It sounds like the same case, except this, should be resolved in 76. Since you're indicating you're experiencing it still on v76 would it be possible for you to please open a ticket using the link in my signature? Once open please reply with the Ticket ID here so that we can update this thread with the resolution once the ticket is resolved.

    Thanks!
