I am getting this "Read-only file system" error for the files in my backup drive. I read on the forums that I should just delete the files in the backup drive and run fresh ones, however when I try to delete them I get an error that they can not be deleted since they are read only. And when I try to change their permissions I get an error that they can not be changed.

So now what can I try?

Try rebooting the server. I have had this happen before and essentially there is a file system problem somewhere and Linux is changing the data to readonly to protect the data. If after a reboot you still see that error come back, you will want the datacenter to run and FSCK on that disk to see what kind of errors they are getting as the drive could be going bad.
