Pablo,

Good question, I would probably create a fake cPanel account, then rsync all the DNS zones to that cPanel account in the home directory like /home/user/.dnszones
then include that in your cPanel backups to S3.

Otherwise you can try something like this to rsync directly to s3
http://serverfault.com/questions/73959/using-rsync-with-amazon-s3

Someone else may have a much better solution though :)

Hello :)

cPanel DNS-Only does not include all of the same features as the standard cPanel installation because it's designed only for DNS purposes. You can simply backup the entire /var/named directory as that is where the DNS zones are stored. However, generally, you would simply resync the zones from the hosting servers if the DNS-Only server is reinstalled.

Thank you.

Hello. Is this still valid nowadays? Do you have any docs regarding reinstallation of DNS Only servers?

Great to know. I have my DNS Only servers on Amazon EC2 and they will be upgrading network configurations in under one year from now, and it is very feasible that a OS reload could be required. So, a simple bash script to zip the /var/named folder and FTP it to an external source should be enough, you say? What about services manager choices, cluster connections, customizations in general....

I wonder why DNS Only cannot offer a Transfer Account menu, to transfer relevant configurations from another DNS Only server, so that you can easily move or reinstall a DNS server.

You got it. Hope it can come true anytime soon.
