We would like to offer a backup mail service for people running their own mail servers over ADSL/cable etc, I found this thread : which says about using Exim, would this work also if we ran another copy of exim on a differnet port?

So our first copy of Exim would run the mail accounts for our customers on the server, the second copy would only have details for backup customers?

    Would this work?

    Go on, have a guess
No. Your SMTP server has to be running on port 25 to receive email. You can use a different port (e.g. 26) for sending email, but not receiving from other SMTP servers.

There'd be no real advantage to doing that anyway, and the information in that thread should be all you'd need.
