Backup retention: Additional destination vs. backup folder

I am using Amazon S3 as an additional destination and backup retention is set at 10. This keeps the 10 latest backups on Amazon.

I currently have "Retain Backups in the Default Backup Directory" unchecked, so there are no backups stored on my server. If I check this, will it also keep only 10 on my server, or is this only maintained at the additional destination and the ones on the server will never be removed?

Also, is there any way to keep the 10 most recent on Amazon but only the most recent (1) on my server?

It will indeed keep 10 on the server as well if you check this box

No, at this time you cannot set different retention amounts, you can choose to keep none locally or set the retention amount but the retention remains the same for both local and remote. There is a feature request for this functionality and I'd encourage you to vote on it here: Seperate options to retain backups on different locations
