Greetings,

How can the necessary storage be calculated when performing Daily backups via WHM?

Thank you for the reply. This leads me to some additional questions:

How does the calculation change when one also performs weekly and monthly backups?

What are the retention policies built within WHM?

Is it safe to assume that one must have enough storage to hold the account in each state (daily, monthly, weekly) n number of times, as well as enough to "prepare/package" the backup? Essentially making the formula to calculate storage to be (assuming constant account size):
Code:
Total Storage = (# of Daily Backups * Account Size) + (# of Monthly Backups * Account Size) + # of Yearly Backups * Account Size) + Account Size
For instance, if one runs a daily backup of a 10GB site, they would need 20GB [10GB used to package/prepare and 10GB used to store. After finalization, only 10GB would remain on the storage device and the space used to package/prepare is essentially temporary storage needed at the time of backup.]

You will have a maximum of 7 daily backups, one of them being copied as a weekly backup. You will have a weekly backup for each week of the month, but 1 of those backups will match the monthly backup. IIRC, Weekly and monthly backups are generated at the beginning of the week/month respectively.

David,

Thank you for the reply.

So after a 12 months, we would have 12 monthly, 4 weekly, and 7 daily backups?
