I have a new linux box with two 120 GIG drives for hosting(back-ups to another server). Anyone know what the best partitions would be, so far besides the original /home setup i've formated & mounted the second drive(hdb) as /home2, so I have:

Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/hda3 ext3 108G 3.5G 100G 4% /
    /dev/hda1 ext3 114M 13M 96M 12% /boot
    none tmpfs 251M 0 251M 0% /dev/shm
    /dev/hdb1 ext3 111G 33M 105G 1% /home2

From what i've read so far the first drive (hda) needs to be re-partitioned to add something like:

    114M /boot (exsisting#)
    001 GB /tmp
    030 GB /user
    021 GB /var
    001 GB swap
    rest home

from what i've read cpanel will write to either home (hd) or the home (hd)I designate in set-up, do these numbers/set-up look right or any other suggestions??

    Really appreciate any feedback!

    Well I went with

    001 GB /
    050 MB /boot
    010 GB /tmp
    025 GB /usr
    015 GB /var
    002 GB swap
    Remaining space to /home

which resulted in (after transfering some accounts)

    Current Disk Usage
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/hda8 981M 196M 736M 21% /
    /dev/hda1 46M 13M 31M 29% /boot
    /dev/hda7 59G 601M 56G 2% /home
    none 251M 0 251M 0% /dev/shm
    /dev/hda5 9.7G 33M 9.1G 1% /tmp
    /dev/hda2 25G 1.7G 22G 8% /usr
    /dev/hda3 15G 146M 14G 2% /var
    /dev/hdb1 111G 967M 104G 1% /home2

Hopefully the extra /temp /user & /var space will prevent some of the problems i've read about, any comments/sugestions are welcome

Even though i've read not to move accounts through WHM I moved from cpanel to cpanel server and it worked great! And I can move accounts through WHM from drive to drive (/home & /home2) really ez!!

    How are you running backups?

That is a pretty big tmp partition.

yes I was probably being over concerned but had the space for now and had read about problems I think in moving accounts and running out of temp space. I am going to do backups to either another server or to a machine here at my home/office. Thanks
