bgcheck is a process monitor for Linux written in perl that can be a very useful tool for administrators used to limit the amount of background processes that each user can run.

It can catch the users running excessive processes. IT will mail a warning to the user, and email the administrator. The limits and exclusions are changeable. I have mine set to 20 processes, and I exclude the following:

    exempt uesrs:

    &root&,&nobody&,&bin&,&mysql&,&makenetm&,&cpanel&,&$ftp_user&

    exempt programs:
    &cpanellogd&,&interchange&,&mysql&,&mysqld&,&cpaneld&

    You can download it from:

Nice find... one question. I ran it and it said a user call 'named' is running? What would this be?

'top' doesn't give me much useful information. Anyone know?
