    Hi. I run PHP scripts on my website that have an important need for "gethostbyname" and other RBL checks.

    This means the speed of DNS checking is vital for me.

    I am told by my hosting provider that BIND on Cpanel server already does some basic caching. I have included the following in my "/etc/resolv.conf".

    Code:
    nameserver 127.0.0.1
    nameserver 8.8.8.8    # --> Google Public DNS

    This should technically mean that after the first check, if the caching is happening, then the second query should be instantaneous as it's coming from localhost.

    However, what I am experiencing is that subsequent checks of DNS are not much faster!

    Any thoughts on what I can do, short of installing an rbldnsd or something? I would like to remain with a simple BIND setup if possible.

    THANKS!
