Today i noticed something very strange on a box of my customer.

    /etc/rc.d/init.d/named restart
Stopping named: rndc: connect failed: connection refused
    [ OK ]
    [ OK ]

Notice the error of connection failed/ refused. Well named is running in memory, and logs show its stopping and restarting. Any clues why still this error message ??

Would this happen to be a RH9 box?

Thx for the link. Now i get this:

    PHP:
    /etc/rc.d/init.d/named restart
    Stopping named
    rndcconnection to remote host closed
This may indicate that the remote server is using an older version of
    the command protocol
this host is not authorized to connect,
    or
    the key is invalid.
                                                               [
    OK  ]
    root@smith15 [/var/named]#                                 [  OK  ]
    any fix ?

Yeah, keep playing with it. I got that, too. Make sure that rndc.conf and named.conf have the same key. After that run /scripts/fixndc a few times. Eventually you will be able to fix it...:)
