Starting a short while ago, /home keeps getting permissions reset to 700, killing sites and email. Nothing odd showing in logs or crons, except this:
Sat Sep 30 07:31:47 CDT 2006
drwx--x--x 227 root root 12288 Sep 30 07:29 /home/
Sat Sep 30 07:31:57 CDT 2006
drwx------ 227 root root 12288 Sep 30 07:31 /home/
Sat Sep 30 07:32:07 CDT 2006
drwx------ 227 root root 12288 Sep 30 07:29 /home/

Note the time change on the directory? Goes from :29 to :31 and back again as though it's being restored to a previous state. Kind of at a loss here to figure this out, and would appreciate a tip or two for where to look.

Go on, have a guess
Have you checked for cron jobs in the root crontab (crontab -e) and /etc/cron.d/ and /etc/crontab for anything running at 07:30 or at 5/10/15/30 minute intervals.

cron.d has an entry for BFD every ten minutes. No help in any of the others...will look into BFD, thanks chirpy. This issue came and went, though. We set up a script to reset perms while we looked into it, and it stopped shortly after doing so. No recurrence since.
