I keep getting emails that are completely blank. No message source, subject, nothing. Has anyone experienced this and if so, know what could be causing this?

I got a few of those, including one that apparently was a rather important email that got zapped by whatever the cause.

As a result, I disabled SpamAssassin, because I didn't know what else to blame. I haven't seen any of these blank emails since.

Are you guys running SpamAssassin?

These blank emails started a couple of days ago, for me. I'm getting them through one of my non-cPanel accounts, SpamAssassin is not involved. The From is:

Received: from unknown (HELO mrcmark-bizop.com) (64.145.62.140)

Well at least yours had a recieved from.

Ours have no to: no from: no data: no subject: no nothing.

Some though have an attachment called ATT000091.txt which is also empty.

Most are in the 300-400 byte in size. In outlook going into the messages options there is also no information.

Very weird. I also do not think it has anything to due with cpanel nor spamassassin, as I have found quite a few references to these types of e-mail doing a google search. Mind you none of them have an answer either, and some have some info while others have none.

I've had about 7 of them over the last few weeks. No idea what is causing them and if they were accidently generated as blank or if they were genuine emails that have been stripped of everything including all headers. Not even the to: from: etc fields appear, only the timestamp as my email client checks for mail.

I've had several now and the latest one leads me to believe that the content of a genuine email is being stripped out rather than some problem which is generating them as totally blank initially.

I've encountered this a few times. I never figured out what it was. It did not seem to be related to the server though, because it happened on different servers, and different ISPs.

It appeared to be related to Outlook and Outlook Express. The mail was fine while it was sitting on the server. I could view it there. It was when it was downloaded into Outlook or OE that the message seemed to be stripped.

It seemed to happen more often after a MS upgrade, suggesting to me that there was some slight incompatibility bug in Outlook. But, it just disappeared after a while.

A quick fix was to make sure the person sent the email as Plain Text, instead of HTML.

How do you know if they are blank? We are talking about blanks without any info not even headers.

Has anyone heard if this problem has been resolved? I had the same problem - I actually got over 30 of these blank emails in 30 minutes before disabling SpamAssassin.

I had the problem before, but it was to do with setup or something... I can't remember what, since I do not get those ever again anymore.. since upgrading and beyond.
