    Hello

I need help with spamassasin. I see this error on Mail Queue Manager only for email with attachments.

    Code:
    Message 1FBuCj-0008TW-CS is not frozen
    delivering 1FBuCj-0008TW-CS
    LOG: MAIN
<xxx@xxx.com>: virtual_sa_userdelivery transport output: An error was detected while processing a file of BSMTP input.
    LOG: MAIN
== xxx@xxx.com R=virtual_sa_user T=virtual_sa_userdelivery defer (0): transport filter timeout while writing to pipe
    Return to Mail Queue
    Anyone have a fix?

Here I have found this issue to be a spamassassin bug in Bayesian classifier.

You can fix the issue with the mail delivery by disabling Bayesian classifier by adding

    Code:
    use_bayes 0 in the file /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf

Let me know how it goes

Hope spamassassin si aware of this bug by this time.

I too am experiencing this problem. Was wondering if there was ever a resolution to this. Below are the contents that I am seeing in the exim_mainlog:

That's spamd crapping out because it cannot cope with the load. IF it's the same as this one it's been ongoing for ages:
    http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?t=12359

The only permanent fix is to do the spam scanning outside of exim since it appears to be a problem with the way spamd works that isn't apparent if you use the SA perl modules to access the SA libraries directly (e.g. as MailScanner does).

    How can we do that?

    Chirpy,

I have this problem on several of my servers and need an urgent solution. How could we do SpamAssassin processing outside of Exim? My servers are pretty loaded so going to MailScanner might not be a solution, that could delay delivery even more.

Does your company has the expertise to look into this? We would be willing to pay of course.

    Warmest Regards,

    elenlace

I'm not aware of a workaround for the issue.

    Chirpy,

Will your $35 MailScanner service help the issue? I have many upset customers over this. In your expert opinion will installing this help matters?

My servers are moderately loaded I have around 250 domains per server (have 8 servers so far) but with some heavy users. Dual Xeons 2.4 - 3.2 with 2GB Ram RHEL 3 (from ev1).

    Looking forward to your response.

    Warmest Regards.

You can use the free version of the MailScanner script if you want. It makes the issue moot because MailScanner doesn't use the spamd process which is the problem.

    Chirpy,

I tried that  but the problem was that it installed MailScanner but it didn't configure Exim properly. I have pretty good knowledge in setting up scripts but not in setting up MailScanner from scratch.

Additionally, I would like the full solution for spam control maintaining the server load at a decent level. And if load goes up, I like MailScanner's flexibility in limiting by message size which e-mails are filtered for spam or viruses. I have no control over that right now using ExiScan.

I used to have MailScanner a while ago (when it was supported by cpanel) but moved to ExiScan as MailScanner went unsupported.

I had this problem and found tht spamd binary was not present in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin. I tried every thing mentioned in the forum
I found a script /root/spamd ! which fixed. it I have no idea how it fixed it
    here's the script

    #!/bin/sh

    echo " Removing old filese......"

    rm -f /usr/bin/spamc
    rm -f /usr/bin/sa-learn
    rm -f /usr/bin/spamassassin
    rm -f /usr/bin/spamd
    rm -f /usr/bin/sa-update
    rm -f /etc/rc.d/init.d/spamassassin

    sleep 10

    echo "Updating with new filese......"

    cp /usr/share/scripts/spamc /usr/bin/
    cp /usr/share/scripts/sa-learn /usr/bin/
    cp /usr/share/scripts/spamassassin /usr/bin/
    cp /usr/share/scripts/spamd /usr/bin/
    cp /usr/share/scripts/sa-update /usr/bin/
    cp /usr/share/scripts/spamassassin /etc/rc.d/init.d/

    echo " Done...."
    sleep 10

    service exim restart

    I did:

    rm -f /usr/bin/spamc
    rm -f /usr/bin/sa-learn
    rm -f /usr/bin/spamassassin
    rm -f /usr/bin/spamd
    rm -f /usr/bin/sa-update
    rm -f /etc/rc.d/init.d/spamassassin

    And then

    /scripts/upcp

    That worked too.
