    Thanks for the idea!

Yes this fixed it - seems the error was on all the account using the standard Blue theme...

Ok, thats one (crappy) solution - how do we fix this, and keep the accounts on the 'x' theme?

This file seems to be missing from the 'x' theme. Anyone know if/when/how it will be fixed?

i agree -- some of our clients do use their cpanel interface, it's not just us with the problem. seems like in addition to avoiding the problem, the bug itself should be addressed.

Your host/reseller will have to change the theme.

what i mean to say is,

WHM is down... i just get a 404 message. i get a 404 error message when i go to:

https://198.87.84.172:2087 (should be our web host manager)
and https://198.87.84.172:2083 (should be master cpanel).

unless you mean service provider BocaCom??

sorry i'm genuinely naive, just want to make sure i understand.

i'm trying suggested forum solutions to the upgrade problem via SSH under root login -- nothing's working, but i'm no troubleshooter. i'm a real newbie.

I misunderstood you. You should be able to change the theme through the WHM (http://IP:2087). If you cannot access the WHM (another problem!) and you have root shell access you can change the theme by manually editing the account file listed in /var/cpanel/users/

If the account was called test1 you would do the following once logged in as root

    pico /var/cpanel/users/test1

Look for the line that says RS= and change the value (the part after the equal sign) to whatever theme you would like.

Ctrl+O and then Enter to overwrite the exisiting file
    Ctrl+X to quit pico

All of the above instructions are related to changing a users cpanel theme. I have not experienced the problem described in the first post of this thread nor have I researched a "better" solution.

hannah while looged in as root via ssh you may want to try the following command:

    service cpanel restart

and then see if you are able to login via WHM

If you need to reboot via the command line you can run:

    shutdown -r now

If though it's the theme for WHM that is screwed up (probably why you are getting the 404 error) Try this command and change theme to another one you want that you have for WHM.

    http://IP:2086/scripts/dosetmytheme?theme=Xskin

Change Xskin to X or blue etc...

your posts have definitely enabled me to determine that this is NOT fundamentally a theme problem! i get 404 errors at the links both of you provided, and (now that i know how to look up what the theme currently is) the theme isn't the default anyway! it's a custom theme.

i really appreciate the basic command how-to, particularly the reboot which I was wishing I knew how to do.

i am going to continue my scour of threads to do with the WHM being down after the security upgrade. thanks, all. nice to have friendly voices out there.
