I contacted the support at 16.12.2004 (cPanel tickets ID# 83158) and submitted the case into the bugzilla system.

Because there was no reaction from cpanel I open now this thread.

You'll want to give your cpanel version and release name and any steps you've taken to resolve the problem as well. Have you tried running /scripts/mailperm ? might help. Anything in the error logs ? Tried updating cpanel ? Is the problem resolved if you switch back to english ?

Of course I discussed this with the support and they gave me the advice to open bugzilla cause

This bug is in every cpanel version since 16 dec (and earlier) on all server without an error log.

The bug exists only with the language "german". If you send a mail with the language "english" you have no problems with an invalid syntax in the inbox file.

This only affects local email transfers.

    Nick,
did you try to reproduce this bug?

The content of the e-mail doesn't matter.

    No fix for this.

You could vote for this bug .. but I didn't receive any response from cpanel staff.

It has to be something wrong in the mail header from a local mail - try to find this mail in the inbox and delete it with a text editor in the inbox file.

Thanks for the suggestion, although since my client forwarded a whole lot of mails from a local account, I'm not going to even start searching for the problem in the headers :)

    Thanks for your replies.

CPanel guys, the BUMP still counts :p

    Go on, have a guess
Vote for the bug in bugzilla as mentioned before seems the best bet.

I'm having this same problem, in ENGLISH, on
    WHM 10.1.0 cPanel 10.2.0-C131
    RedHat 7.3 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0

ERROR : Could not complete request.
    Query: SELECT "INBOX"
Reason Given: SELECT failed: Can't open INBOX (file /home/account/mail/domain.com/user/inbox): not in valid mailbox format

So far I thnk it's only happening with one account on the server, many others are functioning properly.

I didn't see anything helpful in bugzilla. Anyone have ideas?
    Thanks

ERROR : Could not complete request.
    Query: COPY 825 "INBOX.Trash"
Reason Given: UID COPY failed: Can't append - file "/home/user/mail/user.com/designer/INBOX.Trash" is not in valid mailbox format

    I have the same problem.
Quote from Tech support: Sometimes there are some incompatabilities between horde/squirrelmail. Did you try having the customer deleting the messages with horde? It should work when horde is used.

It does not matter which program, none of them will delete or empty Trash

    Hello,

    Did you try the scripts
    ---------------------------------
    /scripts/mailperm
    ---------------------------------

    Let me know the status.

/scripts/mailperm didn't work so I ended up just deleting the customer's account and re-adding, which of course lost all the mail that was in their inbox, but at least they can use webmail again.
