After being a user of cPanel for a number of years with multiple ISPs we have now set up our own servers and installed cPanel.
Working fine BUT having set up a number of email users we can send emails from those email addresses but cannot receive any incoming emails ( like replies to our sent emails and other uniquely generated external emails )
Help. Is this a cPanel problem or a Linux problem. Is there a tutorial or flowchart showing what major items to check from the inward comms interface to the email service?

Are you receiving any bounce back emails or check the email logs through SSH at /var/log/exim_mainlog.

I would say neither. It sounds like a DNS problem to me. Any local user would be able to send email, but if DNS is not set correctly then it is either being delivered to an old mailbox somewhere or it is is getting bounced back to the sender.

I thought most likely DNS but I can externally see the websites on that IP address.

Yes I have bounce backs ( arrived overnight ) and investigating.

Upon the bounce back email it seems that the mail was not delivered to the recipient email address. Need to check the recipient email server for the error message. You can also check the error logs for the exact error message through SSH at /var/log/exim_mainlog.

You can check the bounce back email by id (for detail information)using the below mentioned command:

    cat /var/log/exim_mainlog | grep 1Nnmky-0001QD-IO

Problem resolved, Courier mailserver never receives mail yet can send without problem. Changed to Dovecot and Send/Receive works 100%.
