Hello,

I have a lot a requests from clients to install SSL in shared hosting. But they don't want to spend extra money to buy a dedicated IP.

My question is, can we install SSL in shared hosting, without a dedicated IP ?

Thanks

Hello,

You can install "one" shared SSL certificate on the server without having a dedicated IP ( refer SSL FAQ ). But it is not a way to install SSL for client's domain. If they need an optimum solution, ask them to buy dedicated IP; cPanel - apache still not support multiple SSL hosts / IP.

Thank you.

Even when we do support wildcard SSLs and UCC SSLs, those will require purchasing an SSL that is a far higher cost than a standard SSL certificate. Individual customers will not be able to purchase a standard SSL and have it function on the main shared IP address for multiple different domains and accounts.

I bet the answer is can't be done but i'll ask anyway.

I've got a cPanel VPS just has 1x Domain, 1x IP, DNS/mail done elsewhere pointing back to this VPS.

I want to setup an SSL certificate on this only IP, however cPanel says "no",

SSL install aborted due to error: Sorry, you must have a dedicated ip to use this feature for the user: blahblah! If you are intending to install a shared certificate you must use the username "nobody" for security and bandwidth reporting reasons.

How can I force the install?

This VPS will only ever host this 1 domain name.
