I need to add third and fourth nameserver. We got additional ip addresses set up and under Server Configuration -> Basic cPanel & WHM Setup I was able to add additional nameservers, successfully assigned ip addresses and added an A entries and save changes. However, under DNS Functions -> Nameserver IPs I see only the original two nameservers.

Examining of /etc/wwwacct.conf and /etc/nameserverips shows that new servers were added successfully. But I am unable to query the new nameservers ( dig @newnameserv mydomain.sufix ) from my local computer, where I did make the required entries in my hosts file, to bypass dns propagation. Dig just times out, but I am able to ping the IP so everything should work, but it seems that named is not listening and responding.

    What did I miss?

Did you update the domain names at your Domain Name Registrar?

Please check the DNS zone file for your domain to ensure you have the NS entries listed there for the third and forth nameservers. You'd need the following in the /var/named/mydomain.com.db file:

    Code:
    mydomain.com. 86400 IN NS ns1.mydomain.com.
    mydomain.com. 86400 IN NS ns2.mydomain.com.
    mydomain.com. 86400 IN NS ns3.mydomain.com.
    mydomain.com. 86400 IN NS ns4.mydomain.com.
    ns1 14400 IN A IP#
    ns2 14400 IN A IP#
    ns3 14400 IN A IP#
    ns4 14400 IN A IP#
If you do not see all of these in WHM > Edit DNS Zone for that domain, you'd want to add the missing entries. I am thinking it is likely the NS entries that are missing rather than the A record ones.
