Hello, I am trying to set up my email on mac mail but it will not connect to the outgoing server. I am using mydomain.com.tld with "Use SSL" checked. But it will not connect or send mail. What is wrong?

    Hello,

If you are using SSL then please confirm with your hosting provider use ssl certificate for pop3/imap and smtp and confirm that you use below port number for SSL :

    POP3 : 995
    IMAP : 993
    SMTP : 465

Also please confirm about outgoing email server name.

    Thanks

    Hello :)

Are you receiving a specific error message? What port are you using for the outgoing mail server? Have you verified the mail server name resolves to your server?

    Thank you.

I am using a VPS hosted on Ramnode, with SSL settings it is SMTP Port: 465. All it says on my mail client is that it cannot connect to the smtp server. How can I check if the mail server name resolves to the server?

    Hello,

You can ping your mail server name from your local pc command prompt then you get the your mail server resolve to server or not from your pc.

    Hello,
If you access your cPanel you will probably be able to see the settings you need in order to set your email on your mac, also you can probably verify your mailserver, probably is something like mail.yourdomain.tld

    Regards

I feel like there is a bigger issue developing now, I cannot use SMTP for any of my email addresses for any cPanel account. Also my IMAP only connects if I don't use SSL, what could be the giant issue here?

I can ping the non-secure server, but I can't ping the SSL one

I suggest contacting your web hosting provider for assistance with getting your email client configured with the correct settings. It's possible you need to use a different mail server name, or an alternate port if your ISP is blocking port 25.

    Thank you.

I have tried virtually everything, but the strange thing is.. if I download AirMail or Postbox (Alternative mac mail clients) they configure successfully and I can send using SMTP. Have you ever heard of such a thing? It leads me to believe that for some reason Mac Mail will not allow non-trusted certificates. When I configure the mail in the other programs it asks me if I want to trust a certificate multiple times, but on mac mail it will only ask me once, if that.

This would be a separate issue if you are experiencing it on different email clients. Could you elaborate on the specific issue you are having?

    Thank you.

I can verify that this is happening on my cPanel hosts as well, probably since the Yosemite upgrade to Mac OS. I can send through SMTP from any client but Apple Mail. That dies on any cPanel SSL connection I try, ostensibly because they're running self-signed certificates to the root host domain and rather than generate a popup "do you wish to continue" warning like Outlook and other clients on the Mac, it just dies.

Ask your hosting provider that enable this option on the server: "Require clients to connect with SSL or issue the STARTTLS command before they are allowed to authenticate with the server."

Did you use the mail auto-configure script provided in cPanel when setting up this email account?

    Thank you.
