Good morning to you all.

I cannot login to my WHM, otherwise I would use a support ticket.

This morning I did login before all these issues and checked the security adviser. It wanted me to do a yum update and when I did, it seemed like it did not work properly.

I tried again and I belive it went through. It then asked me to do a graceful reboot on the server and I did this. It seemed to take forever and after I tried to go to the WHM, it did not and page came back with error. I could not go to any website on the server.

I am with OVH and have a VPS server with them. I went to reboot with them to see if this would fix the issue and it did not.

I could not even login to the KVM. Nothing worked. I called them and they said it could be related to ports being blocked and the firewall. I have down updates several times before and several reboots without any issues.

Right now I am restoring to yesterdays backup from OVH and this will be before any updates or changes I did. This might get things up again, but I am concerned that I cannot update the software without causing this issue again.

I spoke with three people from OVH and they do not like to provide too much assistance with software. One person was just so unhelpful, another said it could be iptables (ports) blocked, and the last person said something about OVH having their own Kernel and when the update was done today, it caused issues with OVH Kernel.

Can anyone PLEASE help as the restore is taking forever and when it does come back, I really need to do updates.

Thank you all for your help in advance!

Hello,

It's difficult to know for sure what preventing your server from booting after the reboot attempt without access to review the logs. Feel free to send an email to cs[@]cpanel.net and they can direct your request to our Technical Support team. You can post the ticket number here so we can update this thread with the outcome.

Thank you.

Thank you for your time. Whenever my server comes back online, I would like to do a update again, but now I am nervous about it. Have you heard of any issues with OVH and Kernel updates when doing a yum update? I have done this before and no issues. Is there a way that the iptables got messed up with doing a yum update then restarting server?

Hello,

I've not seen any recent cases where kernel updates have resulted in a system failing to boot upon issuing the reboot command. I'd advise consulting with your provider to verify there are no hardware issues preventing the server from starting.

Thank you.
