You need to check the exim mainlog usually in /var/log/exim_mainlog when you send an email for the exact errors.

    Do the following:

    mkdir /var/spool/exim/input
    mkdir /var/spool/exim/db
    mkdir /var/spool/exim/msglog
    chown -R mailnull:mail /var/spool/exim
    service exim restart

Did you POP the account first? If you don't POP first (POP before SMTP) then you need to use SMTP AUTH in your email client.

Would have helped if you'd mentioned that ;)

    Try:

    /scripts/eximup --force

Is this a new setup? I had this very problem and it turned out to be my domain cpanel user password was matching my root password. Also I changed my cpanel user name and everything worked.

    Just a thought
