I identified a bug in WHM/cPanel and reported it in the cpanel Bug Reporting tool. But cPanel staff cannot seem to help.

Here is what I reported:
************************************
Version Running: WHM 11.23.0 cPanel 11.23.1-C24867

I cannot shutoff text alerts for Disk Usage, nor can I update the settings to
make them stick.

For the longest time I would logon to my server on a daily basis to update the
WHM WARN for Disk Usage (Main >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings) and
change the WARN from 80 to 89 and the FULL and CRITICAL from 90 to 94.

My Host Provider told me I also had to manually edit
/usr/local/cpanel/libexec/chkservd because every time there was an update to
the cPane;l/WHM system my changes were overwritten.

So I did this day in and day out for some time simply to keep from getting text
alerts at 1:00am - 3:00am which would wake me up.

I now have gone in and disabled the WARN alert altogether in order to get a
full night's sleep. Guess what...I still get the annoying/mysterious alerts
every night.

Can you please disable the feature as it does not work. Thank You.
************************************

In WHM, in the Main >> Server Contacts >> Contact Manager setting options I
have the following 3 Alert Types set to pager (which is my cell phone):

Apache Max Clients Check
Kernel Crash Check
Trojan Horse/File Modification Check

Can you tell me which one I should turn off in order not to receive Disk Usage
WARN messages?

Thank you.

In Tweak Settings there's an option you can untick for "disk space usage warnings" and "Notify the admin..." In Change System Mail Preferences you can disable/adjust priority on any option you like there, including disabling pager.

If an account is reaching that level on a daily basis you might have the user upgrade the account to give him some breathing room. That close to quota is not a good thing I don't think. For example if they wanted to generate a backup of the account, I would imagine it would fail as there wouldn't be enough room to leave it in the root of the account.

My Notify has been "unticked" for a long time, even though the threshold is set to 93. I continue to get WARN Alerts consistently at the 86%, 87%, and 88% levels. In fact, today was the first time I also got an alert at 2pm in the afternoon. I think WHM has made an enhancement to send uncontrollable & unstoppable alerts twice a day now.

In Change System Mail Preferences you can disable/adjust priority on any option you like there, including disabling pager.
In the Change System Mail Preferences section, the only option I have active is 'Mail should be forwarded to' which goes to my email address, not my cell phone.

These alerts are generated by chkservd and are not governed by the values in the WHM Tweak Settings interface. The only way at this time to disable the alerts from going to your pager is to remove your pager as a recipient of level 1 alerts. This is done in the WHM Contact Manager by changing the Priority for your pager to Medium.

I keep getting woke up at night due to these disk usage alerts, and the kludge fix for this (to reduce pager priority) does not make any sense. Getting text alerts (pager) is a great idea, but I only want to get them for critical server issues.

Right now, if my /backup drive is at 81% capacity, I get paged. But this is by design... I am using as much of the drive as possible for additional daily backups. Even at 81% capacity, that still leaves me 50GB of room! But I can't adjust this value.

Contact Manager is doing some really cool stuff for us, don't get me wrong. I really like it. But something is just not right, relating to Disk Usage warnings.

I have created an Enhancedment request in Bugzilla. Feel free to add your comments, and Vote on it, if you wish:

Thanks!

Wow, I see that cPanel has already responded and says that a tweak is coming!!

Thanks Scott. The Contact and Notification system is targeted for improvement and changes for 11.25.
Yay !!! Thanks Kenneth!

And cannot remove the alert email address

Additionally, it seems, that once you enable pager alerts by entering an email address in the pager service option in the basic server configuration it is not possible to remove it (at least for the disk usage warning under discussion here). CPanel seems to retain the previous email address for sending the disk usage warnings to even if it has been set back to empty in basic server settings.
