    I am attempting to evaluate the product as well with the same exact configuration: FreeBSD 4.9 completely bare, and I attempted to fetch and install the latest cpanel, (via fetch http://layer1.cpanel.net/latest), when running latest I get all the normal mumbo jumbo, detects FreeBSD, then begins this:
    ./install: /scripts/setupmakeconf: not found
    scripts/HTTPreq.pm -> /scripts/HTTPreq.pm
    scripts/pkgmap.pl -> /scripts/pkgmap.pl
    scripts/installport.pl -> /scripts/installport.pl
    scripts/fileversion.pl -> /scripts/fileversion.pl
    (etc..)
    scripts/portsup -> /scripts/portsup

    And thats all she wrote. Any suggestions? I originally tried before, without perl 5.8.4, it was the bare install with just 5.x (5.0061 or something ancient).. no go. So what next?

    however, to dmer: my recommendation to you is virus scan your server. This program should not be touching init.d, which makes me think you have a virus, (yes, even BSD servers get them) or worse, a trojan/hacker.

    Well, seems like the main problem I was having was, rsync was not installed. So if your having this problem, and it fails on rsync install failed, just run:

    pkg_add -r rsync

    and you shouldbe good to go. just rerun the install script and it should work.

    so close..
    it installed now, but when I attempt to open CPanel in a webbrowser I get this in my /var/log/messages:

    Jul 19 14:40:34 cptest stunnel[231]: whmhttps connected from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1637
    Jul 19 14:40:34 cptest stunnel[231]: SSL_accept: 1407609C: error:1407609C:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_CLIENT_HELLO:http request

    And the document that opens in the web browser contains no data.
