Can't reseller accounts have import privileges?

8 years on a dedicated box and now I'm redistributing web interests and clients among reseller accounts. Except, surprise, resellers don't have account migration privileges. I'm not sure what astonishes me more: That I never noticed this all these years, or that cpanel apparently lacks such a basic feature. Is there a way to activate this I'm not seeing?

For the moment it seems you're right, although whether or not it's a good idea is the discretion of the admin. Cpanel comes equipped with all kinds of capabilities that aren't necessarily good ideas depending on permission level.

Still, I fail to see why ANY permission level would restrict account import when the only activities required at root level is account creation, and resellers have that authority. Everything is already at /home level so all you should technically need is FTP permission to both accounts, even if you must start by creating the new account manually. Every other script updater nowadays does this.

I agree that it's also a basic issue that really should be overcome no matter what the issues are. It means that it's very difficult to move reseller accounts from server to server. Prehaps as a community we can come up with a script or too that will provide something. (even if it's some sort of SUDO function that needs to be approved by the whm admin)

I've been thinking a bit about what such a script might need to do. Right now I'm leaning toward the idea that the existing cpanel backup engine could already do most of the work, provided the resulting backup temporarily goes into a world-readable directory. Now all you need is FTP permission to get it to the new site. Unpacking it on the other end could be a little tricky.
