    I have attempted everything you can imagine with gcc to unistall and reinstall and so on. My C complier is not working.. I know that.. but I have gcc and gcc-c++ and libtools installed but no matter what I do, I can't get it to work. I have searched all over the net and the references to it are cryptic at best.

    Because of this I cannot upgrade to perl 5.8.8 and basically anything that requires compiling is not working.. which breaks a lot of things. Please if someone has a suggestion for a course of action let me know.

    This is a Centos 4.4 Xen VPS.

    Thanks.

    RPM fixed it

    This happens to so often.. I thought i had tried RPM already but I had only tried to RPM install make.. I ran the following:

    rpm -ivh --force http://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/4.4/os/i386/CentOS/RPMS/cpp-3.4.6-3.i386.rpm

    rpm -ivh --force http://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/4.4/os/i386/CentOS/RPMS/gcc-3.4.6-3.i386.rpm

    rpm -ivh --force http://mirrors.kernel.org/centos/4.4/os/i386/CentOS/RPMS/gcc-c++-3.4.6-3.i386.rpm

    Ran ./cleanmd5 and it acutally worked!

    Proceeding with fixing everything else now.. thanks to the forum for being a sounding board :)
