    From the CentOS mailing list:
In short, has anyone taken the plunge yet?

If so, is everything OK or were there any problems?

I can't comment on CentOS builds, but RHEL3u6 has been running fine for me on 3 of my own servers and plenty of other customers' servers for weeks now.

    It did update openssl, yes:

    rpm -qa | grep openssl
    openssl-0.9.7a-33.17
    openssl-devel-0.9.7a-33.17
    openssl096b-0.9.6b-16.42

Which are the same versions that RHE uses and include the latest securty patches.

    cool :)

So you just changed the serverpath in yum.conf and then ran upcp ?

Ps. I don't understand why there's no apparent reference to 3.6 updating at centos.org.

Yup, just replace the version variable with 3.6 and off you go.

The CentOS site isn't that great at updates in a coherent way, unfortunately. They seem to start in one area and then give up and move on elsewhere. The mailing lists seem to be the better place to get update news.

Change $releasever to 3.6 and it should work.

Hrm, weird. Never noticed this before:
Customer says they tried before to update this via yum and perl and it failed every time. Server still updating, but anyone encounter this before? thx

Make sure that in your yum.conf exclude= list that you have perl and not perl*

    Hey guys

I tried 3.6 but for some reason its not installing gcc after its done installing, cpanel seems to install ok but not sure if the actual software itself installing requires gcc, i noticed it when i was getting ready to install a newer kernel. The 4.0 centos installs a 2.6 kernel this one installs a 2.4 kernel

Is this on a new server? If so, I would always recommend installing gcc before installing cPanel otherwise I have seen things go a bit smelly. Do make sure yum is working before attempting to install cPanel and in the case of CentOS make sure you install the rpm key otherwise you will have problems.

CentOS v3 uses the 2.4 kernel tree, as you say you would need to go to v4 to get the official 2.6 kernel build from RH, though you can always build it yourself.
