I'm moving some sites over to a cPanel server and am having problems with cgi scripts that are outside the cgi-bin. The permissions are correct but for some reason it keeps coming up with a forbidden error.

Are cgi scripts not able to be ran outside of the cgi-bin? If not, is there a way around this?

To run scripts outside of cgi-bin, you need to enable suExec in WHM and the scripts can't be 777.

    squirrel,

Thanks for your response. suExec was enabled in WHM and the scripts are CHMODED to 755. Do you have any other ideas why they may not be working? The files were all transferred through a .tar.gz file so the permissions should have been preserved.

How about ownership (chown)? Might not be the same as on the previous server....

CGI/Perl/Python scripts can all be executed outside of the cgi-bin as long as they have a correct file extension, shebang line & permissions of either 777 (non-suexec) or 755 (suexec).
