Can I use the "Change site's IP address" under Account Functions to change an account from a dedicated IP to give it the shared (main server) IP, so that i can free up an ip?

Or is there another way to remove a dedicated IP from an account?

    Thanks! Jim

You are right, just use "Change Site's IP Address" in your "Account Functions". After restart bind.

    {FEATURE REQUEST]

We just changed a site's IP address from dedicated to shared using WHM, and forgot to restart BIND.

I think it would be a useful enhancement to this function if either
    a) a restart of BIND is included as part of the function, or
    b) a text note/advisory to restart BIND after using this function is clearly displayed.

    Thanks.

That method will work just fine and BIND is automatically restarted.

Might not make a difference though, as any IP change requires propagation. As this is an internal change though, propagation shouldn't take more than 6 hrs -- during which, the Apache Test page will show for the site.

Re: Re: Change IP from dedicated to shared

I performed this change on a Firday, and by next Tuesday the Cpanel test page was still showing. We then restarted BIND, and 2 hours later - all was good.

So my experience was that either
    a) BIND was not automatically restarted by the "Change site's IP address", OR
    b) If BIND was restarted, then we had to restart it ourselves again before the propagation could begin.

Just sharing our recent experience :)

My post was also based on experience and sometimes, the change automatic and the progagation is not required.

Would it make a difference if I said I use RH 9 with Edge? I do not use WHM Stable or Release.
