Hi I'm new to WHM and I want to change my nameserver from its current say...

    ns1.example.com
    to
    ns2.xample.com

But I get this message when trying to remove the nameserver IPs

"Sorry, the nameserver ip 1.1.1.1 cannot be removing since it is till registered with a ICANN register."

do I have to go to my domain manger with the registrar and change the DNS so its unregistered or how do I go about changing them if at all able too?

    Thanks in advance

That is because, there is a nameserver with that IP in the registry. You will need to remove it from the registrar before you can delet it.

As a workarround, edit /etc/nameserverips and make your changes there.

I've done this, but going in the "Manage Nameserver IPs" section take them back (cPanel update records).
In my case there are nameservers already registered on my ips, so I have to ask them to delete these nameservers, is that right?

I went in and looked at that file u told me to edit. Nothing was in it. And I've removed all domains that are registered to point to my domain i've removed them and had them go to the registrars default spot. So when I try and remove them still gives me the message but I fell it is cause that it takes time for the whois to update. Will that work? or is there something else i need to do?

Yes, delete you registered name servers if they are different IPs then the ones you want to use, or just register new ones, (ns3, ns4) and use those, or you can just change the IPs at the registrar to reflect your new IPs.

And how can I check if named.conf and all zone files are ok?

did you give somewhere on the web the name and ip of your nameserver? Did you give that to your registrant?

You should be able to use a different Name, with the same IP. I have my IPs registered as 6 or 7 different names.

Ok, well first you need to register the name server with your registrar. When you ping the name server you get "

"Unknown host NS1.IXPLOSION.COM." and that means the dns is not registered.
