How do I enable my account to recognize index.php files as the DirectoryIndex, i.e., the file that is displayed when a directory address is entered in the address bar?

    When this is entered: http://www.mydomain.com,
I want this file to be displayed:
    http://www.mydomain.com/index.php

I've looked at a CPanel demo, but I don't see this anywhere.

Do I need to use .htaccess? And would I need to use it for every directory? I don't know that I have access to my httpd.conf file.

    Thanks

Yeah, just use a .htaccess and place it in your main folder (public_html or www) and it should work for every folder deep from that...
