Changing Hostname results on nameservers DNS errors?

Hi Guys,

I have a simple question. Changing WHM/Server hostname into another domain. When i made these changes my nameservers stopped working. Is this normal? And do i need to wait for 24 hours for propagation now for DNS to change?

Thanks!

I don't see how changing your server's hostname would have affected your nameservers. For nameservers to work, you basically have to have them created with the parent domain's registrar pointed to the IP(s) of the actual nameservers, then the nameservers have to resolve the hostnames you picked to the same IPs. (there are other setups, but this scenario seems to more accurately describe what you're probably doing).

So, you'll want to check to see that the nameservers you're supposed to be using have valid, registered hostnames pointed to your server's IP, and that whatever DNS service (bind, NSD, etc) is running.

Hello :)

Changing the hostname of your server should not result in a name server failure. Could you elaborate on how exactly the name servers stopped working?

Thank you.
