Some of our clients want their MX entries to point to different mail-servers. When we implement their wish, strange problem arise. Our clients, having MX entries pointing to different mail-servers cannot send mail to the other our clients whose mai-servers are hosted on our default server.

What could be the reason?

You have to remove their domain from /etc/localdomains and add it to /etc/remotedomains (create that file if need be). Also, make sure that if you use your server as a DNS resolver that any local zone file for the domain as the correct MX record assignment.
