Chat program on port 10026

    Hello,

    One of my members has requested that I open port 10026 on a server for a chat program. What's everyones advise on this? (security/bandwidth etc).

    It's up to you whether you trust both the user and the piece of software that they are going to install. Personally, we never allow customers to run daemon processes. You need to weigh the security, and bandwidth and server performance risks that you expose yourself to in doing so. For bandwidth, you can only monitor its usage if you only allow them to use a single dedicated IP address bound to the port (i.e. not the servers main IP address) and use something like bandmin to monitor it.
