    wget ftp://ftp.pangeia.com.br/pub/seg/pac/chkrootkit.tar.gz

#Unpack the tarball using the command
    tar xvzf chkrootkit.tar.gz

#Change to the directory it created
    cd chkrootkit*

    #Compile by typing
    make sense

#To use chkrootkit, just type the command
    ./chkrootkit

#Everything it outputs should be 'not found' or 'not infected'...

    #Now,
    cd ..
    #Then remove the .gz file
    rm chkrootkit.tar.gz

You mean you did not create it? How did it get there then? Is it used by your noc?

To change the password do it in SSH

    passwd admin

    Hmm. To setup chkrootkit?

If you do not know what chkrootkit is, check their homepage (or use google or pay attention to these forums).

I checked already. If you can't help don't reply.

If you checked already then why did you ask? If you would do more checking, you could do less asking.

I did help, I gave you a link to the chkrootkit homepage where you will find a big explaination of what chkrootkit is. As if chk--ROOTKIT wasn't obvious enough. I thought maybe you needed a few links to explain to you what a rootkit was and I know that there are links on that page.

IMO, anyone who has been cpanel admin for as long as you have been asking basic questions on this forum should know what a rootkit and chkrootit are. Do you really maintain a cpanel server and charge people money for your hosting services?

No one is born a genius. You need to break some sweats and learn. That is what I am doing.

I asked WHAT chkrootkit does. I already saw that site but still was not clear about it until I had to search a thousand others (most repoeat the same line from the original site). That is why I asked AFTER I did my searching here adn in google.

What assumption is it that I should stop with?

I thought I had. I make it a practice NOT to answer your questions, thanks in no small part to the annoyance of your followups. Then there is the feeling of disbelief I cannot help feel knowing that there are other web hosts on this forum that may actually be losing business to you. That is why I asked if you actually do commerical hosting. If you are a student or maybe only run a cpanel server to host yours and your friends sites, then I will feel relieved.

The only reason I replied here is to call you on spreading your garbage into totally unrelated threads (in much the same way that this garbage is now in this thread :( ).

BTW, I hope you will forgive me for actually trying to help you in another thread just before returning to this one.

My annoying followups? My garbage? Unrelated threads?

THIS IS A SUPPORT FORUM AND I AM HERE FOR SUPPORT NOT YOUR ATTITUDE.

Of course your opinion may vary, but IMO

Annoying followup is where someone gives you a direct and simple answer to your question and for some reason or another it isn't good enough for you (http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?t=26834 for an example)

Garbage are those threads that contain questions that are very easily answered by running a search on these forums or paying attention to peoples replies. This would also cover questions that are crafted so poorly as to be impossible to answer. (I am not by any means saying that all of your posts meet this criteria)

Unrelated threads. Look no further than this thread. Someone creates a thread explaining how to install chkrootkit and you ask how to change a password. Sometimes threads go off-topic (apologies to billau for this one, mods may want to prune this one), it is not THAT big a deal, but you asked.

Now maybe you can answer my questions? Feel free to use PM.

Yeah, but it's not your support forum. It's a support forum for cPanel/WHM. If you don't understand what chkrootkit does from its website, then join its mailing list and ask there - that's what that is there for.

I too am getting sick and tired of your attitude on these forums. We don't have crystal balls that tell us whether you've bothered going to the site or not. Nor do you say what it is that you don't understand. You're soon going to find that with the attitude you're currently taking you'll be getting a lot less help in these forums. I would suggest you think carefully next time before posting personal attacks against people who are trying to help and don't understand your often oblique questions.

Offcourse chkrootki is very essential tool for the server checking. So just to share information this is ok. We are a community and we need not harshly say to such posting. Let us appreciate.

Most current ver installed now need daily email

I installed the most current version, compiled and ran chkroot. I tried to follow the instructions to install the daily reporting, but it kept giving me a user error even though ssh in as root...not sure what is going on there.

What is the exact step-by-step for adding this to dailiy reporting via cron?

Or is there a way to set this up for daily emailing via whm?

    Thanks.

    Paul
