It didnt occur to me till now after messing with some clamd errors when restarting exim clamd would fail on shutdown but startup just fine, after uncommenting the tcp line it wouldnt fail on shutdown anymore.

However that port is not open in our firewall, what is that port for ? clam has been on that server for several months and the firewall has been in place for about 6 months Ive never noticed any problems.. should I open that port up? or just leave it

    From "man clamav.conf":
    TCPSocket NUMBER
TCP port number the daemon will listen on.
    Default: disabled.

I assume the port is used for remote mail systems, probably not usefull if your serving mail on the local machine. eg. mailserver receives mail, sends to clamav service for scanning and cleaning.. delivered.
