ClamAV Connector, clamd, cpu usage

Hi there

We're running the ClamAV Connector on one of our machines, and clamd is hammering the processor, taking up all available cpu cycles. Initially I attempted to alleviate this by reducing the number of simultaneous clamd processes allowed, but it doesn't matter - each process takes its share of the remaining cpu cycles.

Is there some way of alleviating this (without going as far as removing ClamAV), because it's bringing our server to its knees.

Thanks in advance for any tips

standard clamav does not take up much resources. With clamav connector it's even less resource intensive. What is your system specs? Are you sure clamav is the problem? Are you running mailscanner?

Are you running any RBL?

Hi there

We're running a celeron 1.7ghz, with 1024mb ram.

When I run top, it displays the clamd processes at the top in order of cpu usage, and they are using equal shares of whatever is remaining in terms of cpu cycles. For example, if we have 8 clamd processes running, and for example 20% of resources remaining, each clamd process will be using 10%.

We installed cPanel Pro and the ClamAV Connector about a month ago, and it's only been performing like this for approximately the last 24 hours.

Indeed I have tried uninstalling the ClamAV Connector ... load decreases dramatically. It's very frustrating because clamd has never gone crazy like this before - at the moment I have 2 instances running, and both are consuming 48% of the server resources.

Hi

I've now commented out the clamav virus checking rules in exim.conf, and the system is now running with an average of 60% resources free. As far as I can tell, clam av is the sole reason for the resource drain ... perhaps a cPanel update installed a resource hogging build? That's the only thing I can think of.
