I want to control an already running dns server pair that does not have cPanel on it.

It is possible?

I want the zone files to be edited when someone changes say there sub domains or mx record from within cPanel.

Google for "slave master dns", it's fairly easy to setup. You just set all the domains on the non-cpanel box as slaves to the master and allow updates from the cpanel box on the non cpanel box. :)

Ok, thats great - but does this mean manually editing each zone after it is created, or is there a template that cPanel uses to define each new zone as each account is created?

So, if I have a slave DNS server that I want to use for each zone, I can automatically add the "allow-transfers" line to each zone as it gets added?

Thanks,

Paul

Hello - thanks for the response,

This thread is discussing how to use non-cPanel DNS servers as slave dns servers.

This means adding extra details to the named.conf configuration files, such as the "allow-transfers { ip address list }" bind statement. Rather than editing the DNS zone file template.

Each time a new account is added, cpanel adds configuration to named.conf internal and external views. Is there a template somewhere that is used to create this that can be modified to include other details?

Thanks,

Paul
