Connection dropped by IMAP server

    Hi all,

    I'm currently facing this issue with email server.

    Using cPanel WHM 11.28.64 CENTOS 5.5 i686 standard

    When I click on SquirrelMail, I get an error message:

    Connection dropped by IMAP server

    Hordemail gives error as 'Login failed, becoz the username or password
    you entered was incorrect'.

    The error will exist in only few minuites after that it will start working fine.

    Problem is with all hosted sites on server.

    Any suggestions on how to correct this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    I am also having the same issue on mail server.

    Webmail (Squirrelmail) shows

    ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.

    Please try saving WHM > Tweak Settings area on the server, then see if you are still receiving this error in Squirrelmail. If you are, please also check Roundcube if that is working or not and, if it is not working to send emails either, please provide any errors from the following Roundcube log:

    tail -50 /var/cpanel/roundcube/log/errors
    Roundcube does the most robust logging, while Squirrelmail doesn't provide any really, so it's easier to troubleshoot the issue with Roundcube.

    Thanks for your reply.

    Sometimes round cube giving a blank page and sometimes getting this error message

    Unexpected condition from IMAP server, closed or corrupt connection to IMAP. Possible mailbox corruption.

    tail -50 /var/cpanel/roundcube/log/errors shows

    I get following email notifications from cpanel.

    imap on serverxx.com failed

    ======================================================

    exim on serverxx.com failed

    I'd suggest opening a ticket at this phase. WHM > Support Center > Contact cPanel or using the link in my signature.

    Im having the same problem since yesterday:

    imap failed @ Tue Jan 18 23:38:21 2011. A restart was attempted automagically.

    problem fixed by changing mailserver to Dovecot on whm

    Main >> Service Configuration >> Mailserver Selection

    Thanx Seby....hmm...well...i do not want to switch to Dovecot....cant be the only way :)

    Have you customized the Courier configuration? Please let us know the output from the following command:

    # cat /var/cpanel/courierconfig.yaml
    For reference, Dovecot is now the default selection for the IMAP and POP mail server on new installations; Dovecot also has a number of advantages over Courier, as detailed in WebHost Manager via the following menu path: WHM: Main >> Service Configuration >> Mailserver Selection

    I would check the log file used by Courier (and Dovecot) for clues; the following command can be used to monitor the log file via root SSH access:

    # tail -fvn0 /var/log/maillog
    After starting the "tail" command via SSH, proceed with testing Webmail applications, including Horde, Roundcube, and Squirrelmail.

    hi, i have opened a ticket at that time and you have increased the authdeamon number to 20, that was temporary fix as im having the same problem again.
    Question...switching to Dovecot will effect somehow to the users (lost emails, auth problems, etc.) Also as you said dovecot have many advantages but the one disadvantage is the imap is "Trash mailbox is not automatically expunged", can you please give me more details on it and let me know if in fact this continue being not supported bu Dovecot?
