I am trying to copy the entire public_html folder into a folder within public_html to copy my website. This is so I can backup and create a new website in public_html. When the new website is working I will delete the backup.

The copy is refused: Caught Deep Recursion Condition: /home/luladmin/public_html contains /home/luladmin/public_html/oldSite at /usr/local/cpanel/Cpanel/FileUtils.pm line 263...

Why can't I do this? Advice welcome to achieve what I need to do.

The easiest way to do this is create a folder outside public_html, copy your files to that folder then move that folder to public_html. This will avoid any potential recursion issues.
