CORE files in root ?

    I have a lot of core.1606, core.1702 etc files in my root directory.
    Anyone know what these are ?

    They are owned by root and has 600 as permission.
    They are from different dates including todays date.
    You can't view them, it just a bunch of crap like binary stuff.

    They are process dump files created when a process fails or debugging processes. For more information, do a search on Google for core dump files
