I have these core.???? (? meaning random numbers) All over my server. What are they and how do I stop them from being created? Is there anything to be gained by them, such as troublshooting, etc.?

    Go on, have a guess
If you search on Google for gdb core dump you'll find plenty of information about them. GDB is used to analyse the core dumps and determine what process failed and why. Typically, I see these mostly with custom built kernels running grsec, rather than the OS vendor supplied kernels, or if you have your gcc libraries out of sync with the Os vendors. You can disable the creation of core dump files through sysctl if you wish. You can most certainly delete them if you're not goign to analyse them (which is far from easy).

Ahh, Google only works when you know what your searching for, I tried a few different ways, but came up blank each time. Thanks.
