Courier login authenticator with cpanel ID?

    I noticed that there's two types of courier authentication: one with email address, the other one with cpanel_ID. How does the authentication with cpanel_ID works? Is there any way to disable this? I saw spammers try to brute force attack SMTP using the cpanel_ID in LFD log. Thanks.
